You may remember Dr. MaryJo Wagner from SmartKidsSmartParents.com. Last spring we did a conference with her she talked about Brain Gym and the cool exercises your kids (and you) can do to help improve the way the brain thinks! She's an ADHD expert who struggled with ADHD herself as a child, and next Thursday, she's going to do a special TeleWebclass just for us called "Three Secrets to Transforming ADHD"! Dr. MaryJo Wagner is a friend of mine, and is an ADHD expert who struggled with ADHD herself as a child. (Wait'll you hear her story!) In our class, I'll talk with her (yes, you get to … [Read more...]

Like Kayla told you last week, I'm Brock Myers, and I'll be writing a good bit for adhd-inattentive.com. I have a 14-year-old daughter who's ADHD inattentive, and like you, I've gained a lot of valuable tips by reading Who Put the Ketchup in the Medicine Cabinet? This newsletter has allowed me to learn so much from other parents! I love the new focus that Michelle shared on the blog when she started seeing "how ADHD is really a gift and not a deficit." It's so true for Lesley who's the youngest in our family. (Her brother Edison is in his second year in university, and her sister Olivia is … [Read more...]

Introducing Brock Myers

September 3rd! It's seriously hard for me to believe that summer is over. I looked back, and it's been a really long time since I've sent an Ounce of Ketchup email! Our family has seen some interesting changes since then. Ron has graduated from college (Hear the Hallelujah Chorus?!). Joe is deployed on a ship in the Persian Gulf. Mike is back in an academic program at community college, and Ash just finished showing me how he figured out some Chemistry II problem involving moles. And no, I do not know what he is talking about. As for me, my husband and I have started a new business that has … [Read more...]

Virtual Cookie Exchange – Amazing Apricot Cookies

I like to cook, and judging by the numbers of people that eat at our house, I must not be too bad at it. But I'm not much of a baker. Our favorite brownie recipe (although it gets rave reviews) is the Food Lion with walnut mix. So when I was invited to be part of a virtual cookie exchange, I initially dismissed the idea. But then I remembered all of my Facebook friends, and put out a request for help! And sure enough, I got a recipe that sounds absolutely delicious. So I'm in! I sort of feel like I've cheated just a bit and brought my next door neighbor's cookies, but you're probably … [Read more...]

One of our readers is in a contest, and you can help her win with one click. As the coowner of Big Dog Taekwon-Do school, she's in a competition to be named a leading mom in business. Many of her students have ADHD. Here's what she says: "We have heard from parents and professionals alike that participation in a program like ours helps improve focus because we do emphasize so much self awareness and self control. We are attempting to influence as many young people as we can to not only teach them valuable self defense skills but to help them learn to be more self confident!" Please take a … [Read more...]

In the Navy

Speaking of remembering, some of you have been asking about our second son, whose ADHD was the inspiration for "Who Put the Ketchup in the Medicine Cabinet?" back in 2002. I haven't mentioned him in almost two years, because he joined the US Navy, and was attending boot camp and undergoing a security check. I was paranoid that something I had written about him - good or bad - would cause him embarrassment or worse. So I didn't bring him up - hard to do when you're bursting with pride! But, I'm breaking my silence. Boot camp, over a year of schooling, and the security clearance are behind … [Read more...]
